A Design for Reforestation

How can aesthetics in design help reduce environmental impacts?

Indonesia stands at a critical crossroads, facing unprecedented challenges due to rampant deforestation. By 2012, it had surpassed Brazil as the fastest deforesting nation in the world, a crisis that threatens not only the nation's natural beauty but also its communities, with far-reaching impacts worldwide.

In the face of this challenge, we ask:
How can aesthetics in design play a role in reducing environmental harm?

Drawing inspiration from the deep creativity, spiritual beauty, and collective spirit of giving in Balinese culture, this project honors the endangered trees of Indonesia. In Bali, beauty and creativity are sacred acts—expressions of respect for nature, the divine, and community. This collection takes its shape inspired by the delicate leaves and seed pods of these trees. Through design, it becomes more than just an aesthetic experience—it becomes an offering. With every piece, not only is beauty brought into the world of furniture design, but proceeds are also donated to support reforestation efforts and environmental restoration.
